The Captain's Report

We had near perfect playing conditions for our monthly game at Somerset West and boy did they put on a show for us. The new layout is spectacular with the transition from parklands-style golf to the links section of the course being an absolute treat. We were treated like royalty. A huge thanks to Boland Nomad, Wouter Geldenhuys, and his staff for a wonderful day.

I was very fortunate to play with Ant Grace and Dave Gardener and we were joined by the club manager, Wouter Geldenhuys for an extremely enjoyable round of golf.

Once again we had a great group of visitors, which included a number of the club captains from the various clubs who have hosted us throughout the year. In a closely contested competition, the Nomads’ captains were victorious in the Captain’s Challenge. Thank you to all who participated and well done.

I had the great pleasure of re-inducting Gavin Carty and inducting 3 other new Nomads, George Scrimgour, Rod Watkins and Mark West. Welcome gents, I’m sure you will all have great Nomadic careers.

During another very moving ceremony, I had the honour and privilege of presenting a 45 year tie and a 450 game badge to a Nomad’s legend, Ant Grace. What an incredible achievement – well done Ant. It truly was a very special occasion.

Well done to all of the winners on the day and especially to Ronan Copas on a magnificent 40 points. Thanks, as always, to our national and local sponsors.

Thanks again to everyone for a magnificent day and especially to our ladies, Lisa and Pauline for ensuring that our registration and prize giving went off smoothly.

Our next game is at Durbanville on 25 April 2019, when I will be handing over the reigns to your incoming captain, Carl Potgieter. I look forward to seeing you there.

For Whom The Bell Has Tolled

  • "...Mike Tripp..."

  • "No man is an island entire of itself; Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee." From the meditations of John Donne (1573-1631)
